View Full Version : New Offer on Connect.
M0zza 12-12-2007, 02:29 PM I just noticed the new 50 dollar bonus code on the sonystyle website.
I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is in addition to the 100 classics.
And also, as you get it with an ebook purchase, whether the purchase can be with a gift card.
Has anyone done this yet?
TheLongshot 12-12-2007, 04:06 PM I would guess that it is very likely in addition to the current deal, since they are including a code.
It sucks since they didn't have this deal a couple of weeks ago when I ordered one for my wife for Christmas. :smack:

M0zza 12-13-2007, 06:52 AM Jason,
Have you registered the device yet? The offer is valid when you register not when you buy.
I've had a 505 for about a month and have not done so yet, I've been using an SD card and the tools available here. I've got my wife one for Christmas and haven't registered that either.

That's for the 100 eBook classics. According to this:
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=8198552921644537360
It sounds like they are including a code than you enter into CONNECT.
And no, I haven't registered the device yet, since it is a gift for my wife.

DougFNJ 12-14-2007, 09:16 AM They say you get it when you download a book, not when you register the Reader, are they giving $50 worth of more classics, or $50 in any type of book? They have that written in a bit of a confusing way.
JSWolf 12-14-2007, 09:17 AM it seems to be a $50 gife card code. So it can be used for any type of books.
Lov2Read 12-14-2007, 10:12 AM I bought a book this morning and didn't get any $50 bonus code with it. I guess it must be meant for new customers only even though the ad does not specify that.
Lov2Read 12-14-2007, 11:12 AM I e-mailed Sony about that $50 bonus code, since I had just bought a book this morning. They e-mailed me back to tell me how to redeem it. Turns out it is only good for $50 worth of Classics.
mlbspike 12-14-2007, 01:51 PM According to Sonystyle, doesn't seem to have anything to do with Classics (although the free 100 classics is still included also)

DrMoze 12-15-2007, 04:49 PM Does anyone know if this code will be given for a newly-registered second Reader being used on the same pc as an older Reader?
mlbspike 12-15-2007, 07:09 PM DrMoze,
Based on this quote from the legaleze:
Register for a free eBook Store account or log in to your existing account.
I'm certainly hoping so, and will complain if they don't live up to it. The advertisement on SonyStyle has a big sidebar mentioning the $50 off, and even when I click thru to the fine print
that I reproduced in the above post, it all looks good, so you can bet I'll be pursuing the matter if they don't fork the $50 credit over. Actually, not too worried ... but, with luck, I'll be able to verify fairly soon, I'll post again, and the offer will still be available ... unlike some manufacturers, the sony offers usually have a decently long duration.
donovanh 12-15-2007, 07:54 PM $50 of "classics" isn't worth the paper it.. isn't.. printed on. You can get them all for free elsewhere, sometimes with better formatting.

They had this deal with the older reader where you got 100 classics and $50 for books. One of the things that get me a little irritated at companies is when they give all these great offers to people who buy their products at certain times and not extend the offer to those that helped make the unit popular beforehand.
There was a great commercial on television one time where they showed these kids getting swimming lessons and the instructor comes around and says "say hello to John. He gets to swim in the pool whenever he wants, receives free swim wear and gets personal instructions by an Olympic swimmer." Then one kid says "do we get all that?" The instructor says "no." The kid asks why and the instructor says "because he's the new guy." That's basically how I feel everytime these offers come up.

Actually, as I read the actual offer, it says that you get a $50 bonus code card when you buy a Reader Digital Book (i.e., the Reader itself). Not when you purchase an ebook from the Connect Store. It says "Your bonus code card will be shipped along with your Reader Digital Book purchase." The other info about registering merely tells you how to redeem the code (by registering or signing on, then entering the code).
So, outta luck here. It seems you may have to buy the Reader thru SonyStyle too. But if anyone calls CS and they extend the offer to all recent Reader purchases, that would be cool.
My sister bought a Reader from Borders. There was a code on the receipt for a $50 ebook credit. The wording made it seem the offer was from Borders, but its probably the same deal as from the Sony store.

I checked my receipt from Datavision (just in case) and no credit code. :( When did you buy your Reader? Mine was purchased on Dec. 5. Debating whether to contact Sony (SonyStyle?) to ask for credit in case it was a general offer for all new Reader purchases. Any thoughts?

Certainly worth writing them a quick email...
mbagsh55 12-18-2007, 03:38 AM Hi Guys,
I just purchased a PRS-505 from B&H Photo and as someone outside of the US I would need to be economical with the truth in anycase to qualify.
My understanding from the SonyStyle website was that this was only for purchases from Sony (and Borders perhaps) rather that an offer for all new purchases.
If anyone who purchases from elsewhere does manage to get the bonus $50 offer I will certainly try my luck though.
horseyride 12-19-2007, 07:28 AM Dear xxxx,
In regard to your inquiry, I do apologize but after doing further research I have found that the promotion thru Borders, although may seem to be the same as ours it is not. As per our first response in order for SonyStyle to provide the promotion to you, you will have to place an order thru our sales dept. We cannot accommodate this promotion to an item that was not purchased thru SonyStyle.com.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thank you for choosing Sony Style!

mbagsh55 12-20-2007, 10:01 PM Hi Horseyride,
Many thaks for doing the leg-work on behalf of myself and others wondering about this offer. I am not suprised and given how much I enjoy my new Sony Reader I am not even that disappointed. The end result is that I will not be purchasing any content from the Sony store, but will stick to Microsoft LIF format or downloads from this forum.
Thanks and regards,
Marcus
JSWolf 12-20-2007, 10:49 PM The Borders is the same. A $50 gift card for the eBook Store. I don't see how that could be any different.
