If you signed an agreement for MobiPocket to publish your e-books, they are also being sold as Kindle e-books with no additional permission asked for or required. Amazon may not even know how to pay you for the e-books. That is my interpretation of the following MobiPocket Forum thread: Amazon.com Kindle Books (http://www.mobipocket.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9255).

Perhaps this only applies to independent authors or small publishers, but it illustrates one reason why Amazon bought MobiPocket.

actually, amazon's response to the question has been posted in the thread you mentioned ... and it sounds pretty simple.

What if someone wants his/her books in Mobipocket format, but NOT converted to be a Kindle Edition?

ummm...would that not be DRM? Limiting portability to a individual (or sub-set of) device(s)...??
