kkingdon 12-04-2007, 04:31 PM It is currently close to midnight in France. Maybe everyone except the firmware bug-fix coders are asleep.

My wife says it caused by my geeky friends on this forum obsessively checking out their order status. A bit cheeky when you consider that she has checked her order status at least twice today.:tipsy:

You mean that my automatic refresh script that refreshes every 10ms to check for the word "shipped" could cause a problem?:D
fugsly 12-05-2007, 06:05 AM I thought it might just be the stupid connection at work letting me down.
Hope it comes back soon and I have the same shipping date!
Now if only i could stop checking the site every 2 minutes....
Ortep 12-05-2007, 06:48 AM You mean that my automatic refresh script that refreshes every 10ms to check for the word "shipped" could cause a problem?:D
Nah..that won't be a problem. I used the same script when I was waiting. Of course I don't use it now. I already have the Cybook :yahoo:

quit showing off. I want mine now!!!!!
All patience has run out....
JSWolf 12-05-2007, 06:55 AM Who actually thinks their Gen3 will actually ship today? I'm a bit skeptical on this.
diabloNL 12-05-2007, 07:11 AM To be honest I don't think so, but I sure hope so! :D

well *big sigh* .. i'm trying to be brave about it but it's looking less and less likely i have to admit. The thing that's actually bothering me tho is that the site is down .. that makes no sense as surely there aren't enough waiting people to push the site down are there?
i'm with you fugsly :smack:

Just listen to some relaxing music

Loopy65 12-05-2007, 07:35 AM lol well this will give all those who already have their cybooks a giggle!
i use a laptop all the time so i tend to have windows overlapping and while i'm using my browser all i can see of my email window is some of the title and the timestamp! ... one just came thru that said ' ... has been shipped'!!! .. i got all excited and pressed and ..... it was a stupid ebay purchase!! (not even FOR me!!) ..
i think i need relaxing music too! .. all i have is a 6 year old off sick from school and a 3 year old at nursery!! .. i'm going to have to try not to transfer all my frustration onto them! ..
*thinking calm thoughts*

*facepalm*
I might - might have it worse. I had dreams all last night about trying to fight my way through a crowd of people who were in between me and my email. I just *knew* that if I could get to my email, there'd be a shipping notification.
I finally get there and I could see the FedEx notification, started to open it and...
Woke up.
Imagine my despair when I checked my email for real!
(Yes, I'm aware it probably won't actually ship today. And my best friends are already suggesting therapy :p)
Ortep 12-05-2007, 09:02 AM To calm everybody down:
The Bookeen website is functioning again
http://www.bookeen.com/
Loopy65 12-05-2007, 09:31 AM ho hum .. well it's 3.30pm here and my order page still says shipping date of 5th December .. that's it for today i'm thinking .. will be next week at the earliest now ..
the excitement is all too much for me i need a coffee!
Loopy
Ortep 12-05-2007, 09:36 AM When mine was shiped I didn't see it on the Bookeen page. I got an email from Fedex at arount 18:00 CET they recieved the package from Bookeen for me.
It looks like they spend the day packaging the orders and bring them to Fedex at the end of the day. I got it on monday. So it took only one business day.
So there is still hope for you
OK, my status page this morning (early) at around 5am EST still had a ship date of Dec 5th. Now I checked it (yes I'm anxious  ) at 8am EST and the ship date is gone! I wonder....does that mean it is on its way....or that there is no longer an estimated time when it will ship!!
Anybody else have that change occur?

yup mine disappeared too! .. maybe they just took it off so that all of us who keep checking has something to see!! lol .. maybe they're playing a 'spot the difference' game with us! .. watch that space closely! ..
you read the post on the other thread that the 'cybooks' (hmm what's a 'group' of cybooks called?!) have left the factory and are due to be shipped on monday? ..
Loopy
Yes I just read that. :disappoin
I fly out of town on Dec 15 till January 3rd.....I'll be disappointed if I don't have the reader prior to that.

Sparrow 12-06-2007, 07:38 AM No shipping date on my status page either.
I wonder if they get shipped in order id sequence; my order id is in the low 5000s - but whether that's good or bad, I dunno
My order number is in the mid-3000's.
No shipping date on my status page either.

leeloo 12-06-2007, 01:38 PM Did we puzzle out how the numbering worked? It would be nice to think there are three thousand new Cybooks making their way by barge up the Seine to be repackaged by eager, beret-sporting Bookeeneurs.

That means I was right and they won't have shipped on the 5th as expected. I think Bookeen should just stop putting up dates as they don't actually end up getting it right.

Well technically, they never actually said they would ship *on* the 5th, just that they were expected to ship between the 5th and the (12th, I think? Or 10th). So if they make the Monday shipping date, they'll have met their promised target.

my order had 'shipping date' and the date showed as 5th December .. i think that was them making a commitment .. ho hum ..

ashalan 12-06-2007, 03:18 PM It just keeps amazing me how many companies decide to go the way of 'as little communication as possible'.
How hard would it have been for Bookeen to inform all people that were supposed to have their Cybook shipped on Dec 5th via e-mail that they are late?
Instead they have to face dozens of e-mails by customers inquiring about the shipment, which they then can only answer in hurried manner by a copy-paste standard text (which, if I may say so, is rather vague ... I can read between the lines what they are trying to express, yet that is not exactly what the sentences say).
A little bit of communication goes a long way.

Mine did, too - but that's fairly standard for any prospective shipping. At the actual ordering time - and until they changed it to reflect the current dates for new orders - they always said that it would be between the two dates, not on the first of those dates.
It would have been nice if they'd updated the actual shipping date as they received more information, rather than simply eliminating it, but I don't think it really comes across as a committment.

Not sure, it should be first come first served.
My order went in 16th Nov and got an order id in the low 5000s; but I think other people ordered later and got a lower number :wry:
But maybe I'll still get mine before them anyway :tongue2:

FWIW, I ordered on the 8th for 4590. And I might be in Paris next Thursday for a day - perhaps if I popped down to the 13e...
Lots of info for customers would be a very Business 2.0 thing for Bookeen to do. But it's easy for us to offer advice from the sidelines. (And, yes, that is the whole point...)
Krystian Galaj 12-06-2007, 06:36 PM Mine was 2595, and I got the Cybook in the first batch, a month ago, so maybe they're going in packs of 3000.
Of course, some people may have ordered multiple devices.
kkingdon 12-06-2007, 06:41 PM Everyone seems to assume that the order IDs are allocated in a monotonically-increasing fashion. I kind of doubt that there were 3000 Cybooks in the first order batch. (Of course, I don't expect Bookeen to tell us how many they've sold.)
Ortep 12-07-2007, 02:21 AM My order was 2428 on the first Sunday they opened the shop. That was at about 10 am . I know of somebody who placed an order a few minutes after me and his number was 3 higher. The next day people were getting numbers in the high 2000 range. Later that week the went into the 3000. So it seems they are simply counting. But I guess they did not start a zero. A start at 2000 seems reasonable. Or perhaps there were some big preorders from shops or resellers.
HarryT 12-07-2007, 02:24 AM My order was in the low 2000 range. I know of somebody who placed an order a few minutes after me and his number was 5 or 6 higher. They could very well have been carrying on the count from sales of the originial CyBook, of course.
Ortep 12-07-2007, 02:29 AM They could very well have been carrying on the count from sales of the originial CyBook, of course.
That sounds reasonable. But that means they already have outsold the original Cybook with order numbers over 7000 now

Oh, I'm absolutely certain they have! The original CyBook (of which I have one) was NEVER anything more than a "specialist" device; certainly never attracted the attention and mass orders that the Gen3 is going.
It was nice in many ways. It was a generic Windows CE machine which could run multiple programs, and Bookeen's approach was to install pretty much every bookreading application they could find on it, so it would read lots of different formats. It would also work with Wifi PCMCIA cards, and had IE, so you could use it for web browsing, etc.
The main downside was the lousy battery life. 4h at best for reading; about 90 minutes for WiFi use.

I've just tried and it worked fine. Logged in and looked at my previous orders.

No new delivery news - but at least I can look longingly at my order
