I searched for this subject but didn't find one:

It was recently brought to my attention that an ePub file of mine, when downloaded onto a cellphone, was re-tagged to be a .txt file on the phone. I tried this with my Motorola Droid 3, and sure enough, the ebook tag changed from .epub to .txt.

Interestingly, the file is still an epub; it still opened properly in Cool Reader, covers, formatting and all.

Anyone have an idea why this happens, and if there is something I need to add to the container to prevent the tag change?

Sounds like an issue with the cell phone changing the extension. Are you downloading off the internet through the web browser, or transferring with a USB cable? If through the web browser, possibly something in the settings is causing it to save everything with a .txt extension.

Agreed. I used the phone's web browser (came with the Android phone, "Browser v2.3.4"). Looking through the browser settings, there doesn't seem to be a control for that.
