Linux treats my Kindle as an audio player, Calibre doesn't recognize my Kindle
When I plug my Kindle Touch in to a PC running Linux, the system puts the icon of an audio player on the screen with the text “Kindle” beneath the icon and immediately starts an audio player (which I shutdown). I can use the icon to open a File Browser window that I can use to copy files to the Kindle. However Calibre does not recognize the Kindle.
I have tried the fixes in both the: * “Why is my device not detected in linux?” and * “My device is getting mounted read-only in linux, so calibre cannot connect to it?” subsections of the “Frequently Asked Questions” section of the on-line Calibre Users Manual.¶ Any ideas? |

Ethelred?
Thank you. I have followed the advice at the link you provided. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04. The modification to the .rules file succeeded in getting Ubuntu to recognize the Kindle as a USB device. However, I have not been successful in getting Calibre to recognize the Kindle. I will do manual file moves for now. It sounds, from the link you provided, like when I update to the current version of Ubuntu it should work. |

Unfortunately, it also means that you're probably using a rather old version of calibre if you installed it from an Ubuntu software repo.
The version of calibre available from my 10.10 repo is only up to 0.7.18. I'd hate to have to go back to that version from 0.8.33. Last edited by DiapDealer; 01-02-2012 at 09:28 AM. |
