It reads fine in that mode. I run Plucker, eReader and Mobipocket for Palm OS without any problems. I also have Adobe Reader for Palm OS installed which works good enough, as I rarely have the need to read PDFs. I will say that larger images are difficult at best and I would not want to read anything with loads of images. I find I loathe to pan around to see the full image so I usually just skip them all together. So, if you are looking that might be a decent enough device if the cost is cheap enough. That was the ONLY reason I bought the nx73v...it was super cheap. If you are looking at over $150 (for an almost new or new device) then you might consider a dedicated ebook e-ink device instead. But, I find I enjoy the PDA functions quite a bit...more so then I ever imagined I would. Also, good luck if you want to try to run Opera Mini 4. Opera Mini requires the IBM Websphere Java runtime and it is hit and miss to find or get that running for earlier releases of Palm OS 5.x (I read that it runs well under v5.2 and above for the most part.) Sorry if this info is a day late and a dollar short... Cabe 12-19-2007, 09:30 AM im intrigued I guess you are referring to the PEG-UX50 (clamshell Palm OS based CLIE) however I wonder if the OP mend the newer Vaio UMPC - http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/90530/sony-vaio-vgnux50.html brecklundin 12-20-2007, 02:53 PM oh...wow...very likely you are right...never even know about the new Viao UX50. That is one sexy piece of expensive hardware. I did a fast google of the thing and it's neat but more then one reviewer said reading text was somewhat of an issue. Not sure if they are talking about web pages that do not support larger fonts or what. I would imagine any of the ebook reading apps for xp will look just fine one you make the fonts larger. Here are a couple YouTube videos I found when searching, maybe they will help the OP?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmIfiD3g9mw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wu7s5Y-9yAU This video review might help the most: /www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rMwV0nLJzE&feature=related Not sure I could see using it as a main/primary reader after watching that...and since it is running an Intel either Core Solo or Core Duo the battery life will be kinda short. thanks for pointing out I likely was on a different wavelength then the OP. :D Cabe 12-21-2007, 06:13 PM Sony have a nasty habit of reusing codes (and having different codes for the same thing), I saw UX50 and thought "I wonder which one he wants...." :) |
