Hi everybody !

First, excuse my bad English...

I'm making some illustrated epubs.
I've noticed a bug in iBooks that came with the update of the iPad iOS 5.

With some images that are floating on the right, the text overlaps the image and the image is "falling down" (What I mean is that the image is lower that it should be in the HTML flow) . I don't have this problem with ADE neither with the last version of iPad. Does anybody knows about this issue and could help me ??

Thanks in advance for your help,
H.

I've noticed something like this too on a new iPod Touch with latest iOS and iBooks 1.5. In my case the images are floated on the left with the text sometimes overlapping the image and sometimes above it if right at a page break. The behavior can change as you change the font size - sometimes ok, sometimes not. If the xhtml file is designated with linear="no" then the floats works as expected.

Thank you whbenson for your answer ! I'm turning crazy with this problem.
Happy you know what I'm talking about :) Yes, it's the same for me when you change the font size or font type on the iPad, it's sometimes ok but very annoying.
What is this function linear ? I never saw it before. Where should I put it in the file ?

Thanks,
H.

You probably won't want to use it, as it turns the file into one long page that you would scroll through - i.e. there are no page breaks (which is probably the trigger for this unwanted behavior). In any case, for a good description see

If you use Sigil, it's easy to edit the content.opf file to make this change...

Thank you very much for your answer Bill. Very interesting, I didn't know about this. Sadly, you're wright, I can not use it since it is an illustrated book with many pictures (I need chapters).

Thanks anyway !
I'm reporting this bug to apple. I will post a message as soon as I have news !

A workaround for this problem is to ensure the images you're floating are always at or near the top of the page. One way of doing this is to put an empty <div> styled with "page-break-before: always;" immediately before the float or within a few lines, say. This seems to work so far, if you can live with that constraint.
