View Full Version : As the Mirror Cracks by Steve Jordan
Steven Lyle Jordan 09-20-2007, 12:05 PM Allow me to announce the release of my latest novel, As the Mirror Cracks.
Set in a world just a few steps ahead of our own, As the Mirror Cracks tells the story about the discovery of a plot to destroy an internationally-popular virtual reality space. Yeah, yeah, "So what," you say... but this is not just a virtual space... it has become thoroughly integrated into the world's economy, making its potential destruction a worldwide financial crisis! It's a race to save the Mirror, led by a small group of citizens, and their incredibly colorful Mirror avatars, or "reflections."
As the Mirror Cracks is now available at SteveJordanBooks.com (http://www.stevejordanbooks.com/novels.htm#mirror). As always, the e-book is $2.50, available in multiple formats, and with NO DRM to sour the e-book-reading process! Enjoy!
Editorial Note: Let me add that Steve is a very active and valued member of MobileRead. His stance on DRM is much appreciated. But most importantly, he's a great writer. I have read several of his books, and I intend to go buy this one as well. Let's show the world that even a small online e-book publisher can do well by embracing a DRM-free philosophy!
Gibbo 09-20-2007, 12:08 PM On my way to purchase it :)
yvanleterrible 09-20-2007, 12:13 PM Titke reminds me of Agatha Christie's "The mirror cracked from side to side"
Looking forward to it! :nice:
Jorgen 09-21-2007, 03:40 AM Got it!
Alexander Turcic 09-21-2007, 05:59 AM As always, the e-book is $2.50, available in multiple formats, and with NO DRM to sour the e-book-reading process! Enjoy!
Congrats on your new novel, Steve! :2thumbsup
watcha 09-21-2007, 06:39 AM Just got it too! As a fairly newbie in the UK, thought at first the title referred to our national tabloid newspaper, the Daily Mirror! Look forward to reading a very reasonably priced novel.
DigiDirk 09-23-2007, 05:49 AM Steve,
I'm truly sorry to inform you that from Germany I still get
stevejordanbooks.com has recently expired !
though your newsletter stated that your problems with Melbourne IT were resolved.
Very sad indeed, because I was on my way to purchase "As The Mirror Cracks"!... :(
Dirk
HarryT 09-23-2007, 07:08 AM It's fine for me from the UK!
DigiDirk 09-23-2007, 07:18 AM Yes, I see others confirming their purchase, but I won't get through.
See my attachments.
Dirk
DigiDirk 09-23-2007, 07:40 AM Seems that DNS ist not yet updated here as I just VPN'nd into work
and I'm getting the same results with a different internet provider.
@HarryT: Do yo have an IP adress other than 203.27.227.30 for me?
Dirk

Pinging stevejordanbooks.com [216.227.219.60] with 32 bytes of data:
HarryT 09-23-2007, 07:49 AM It resolves to "216.227.219.60" for me, but putting that into my web browser takes me to www.lunarpages.com who I'd guess are the company hosting the site.
Bob Russell 09-23-2007, 08:01 AM It resolves to that same IP for me when I ping. www.SteveJordanBooks.com works for me, but the IP gives me lunarpages also.
DigiDirk 09-23-2007, 08:06 AM Tough luck for me then?
Do I have to wait 'til the IP gets propageted?
Any thoughts?
Dirk :disappoin

You could try a flushing the DNS cache.
Another thing is to add a DNS in the front of your list that has the DNS associated with the correct IP.
igorsk 09-23-2007, 08:40 AM Add the following line to your %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file:
216.227.219.60 www.SteveJordanBooks.com
HarryT 09-23-2007, 09:18 AM Is that going to help? Won't it just take you to the "lunarpages" site?
igorsk 09-23-2007, 09:35 AM Just try it :)
DigiDirk 09-23-2007, 10:14 AM Yes - of course :smack: - that did the trick!
Sometimes you have to rely on "external brains" as I use to say... ;)
Kudos to igorsk! And thanks to everybody who replied!
Okay, now let's get shopping!
Dirk
And - thanks to PayPal - now waiting for delivery...
jasonkchapman 09-23-2007, 10:26 AM Is that going to help? Won't it just take you to the "lunarpages" site?
It works because the host is using "name based" virtual hosts. If you get to the IP address directly, it sends you to the default host. If you get there by asking for a domain name, the server uses that information to choose the appropriate host.
Steven Lyle Jordan 09-23-2007, 12:16 PM Hey, everybody... just got back from a short vacation, to find my announcement on the front page, and all these great comments... thanks to everybody, and to everybody, enjoy the book!
Dirk, I'm sorry your ISP hadn't updated their IPs sooner... and I thought Comcast took forever! Every ISP will tell you that their IPs should be updated in 24-48 hours, but as we've all learned, that isn't always the case. The problems I've had with ISPs over the years could... say... they could fill a book! Anyway, glad you could finally get through. (And yass... you gotta love PayPal instant delivery!)
Again, I can't thank MobileRead enough for their kind words and support, for me, for e-books, and for guys like Dirk! :2thumbsup
JSWolf 09-23-2007, 10:35 PM All I can say is MOBILEREAD ROCKS!
:mrrox:
Steven Lyle Jordan 09-24-2007, 02:55 PM (Heh... I just started working onsite at an office with their own servers, and I've discovered that they haven't updated their IPs yet either!) :smack:
And before you try to help me fix it, let me assure you that I have no access to any internal PC settings to "punch through" to the address...
