A surprisingly useful book, even though it was published in 1832. There are essays on frugality, household hints and recipes.
I have successfully made the fricasséed chicken and several pies and cakes.
Note: in the baking section, for pearlash, substitute baking powder.
UK readers should note that the American pint is 16 fluid ounces (unlike the imperial pint of 20 fluid ounces).
