Has anyone tried to connect the Android SDK to the "eDge"? Would love to see if its possible.
I'm running a Soft-rooted Nook now and trying out the SDK to write apps for the nook.
But the eDGe got so much more potential!

As the eDGe is currently running 1.6 it should be fun to make some nice apps for it...

It'll be interesting to see what enTourage puts together as their "SDK". Definitely it'll provide support for using the eInk screen. Imagine the apps people will be able to create uniquely for the eDGe!

I suspect Entourage got the regular Android SDK, with a modified emulator together with some own "libs" that makes interaction between the e-ink and the LCD possible.
We only need those libs, some "hello world" examples and specific eDGe function breakdowns to get started. this together with some instructions (if the eDGe got some unique preferences) to get the ball rolling.
(well, I need an eDGe too, but i haven't been able to get one yet, as I don't live in the US)
But it can also be that Entourage is holding back the SDK until they release the next firmware version, like lifting the eDGe platform to Android 2.1?

I would figure that the "regular" Android SDK works just fine and dandy for the LCD display. I've run across several apps that use the full screen as they should and those developers probably didn't have a clue their code was going to run on the large-screen Edge. So, the standard SDK must describe the way of doing it right.
Given the number of apps that don't open full screen I guess either they were coded to an older version of Android where the possibility of a larger screen was unknown, or many developers are just too lazy.
Of course, I wouldn't expect the eInk display to be accessible to programmers using the standard SDK.

Shows some info and possibly explains why apps don't respond quite right, apparently the screen sizes taken into account go up to 5.8 inches diagonal. The edge is a new breed.

I just compiled & ran a sample Android application from their SDK using the emulator on my laptop (Snake was the sample application). It ran fine so I moved it over to the Edge. It ran there too, but not full screen & I cannot find a way to uninstall it now. :) Just a small app for a quick test, so I'm not to worried about it although I will certainly want to figure that part out b/f I get to carried away :)
Point is I think those that want to jump in and write some code could probably get started with the SDK as it stands today and mentioned previously.
I'm very new to the SDK and haven't coded in better than 10 years. For anyone interested I first installed Eclipse and java, then the Android SDK and get the emulator created. Once through the required configuration settings, the rest was very smooth. (compile one of the Android samples and ran that through the emulator. once things worked through the emulator, found the apk and moved it to the edge via usb)

yep, turned out uninstalling is pretty easy too. think i'm going to look closer at Android now to get a better understanding of it's framework, etc. I think I saw other gadgets either coming out or being proposed that will run Android. Other devices that are not phones. I cannot believe there's anything in the framework itself that would prevent scaling to other devices. Specific API's for phone centric functionality, for sure, but I think there's a plethora of things developers could probably do. Pretty exciting stuff :)

I was wondering if anyone knew if the new Chrome OS will be able to run on the eDGe?
