Question Where's the all in one stock Android E-ink reader

Why can't a company just realease an android e-reader capable of installing nook, kobo, and kindle apps. With a pearl screen and infrared touch.

This might be the case with the new Nook Touch, which supposedly runs Android 2.1 and could be rooted. The only problem is that I like more the design of the new Nook Touch Edition. I hope it's running on Android 2.1 too.

Because the market for eInk devices is smaller than that for LCD ones?
Because most non-readers apps would probably work very badly on an eInk screen, if they hadn't been optimised to minimise screen refreshes?

Because nobody is putting out an eink device that's independent enough to do this. B&N is the closest you'll get. But no way will they support Amazon. And as for Kobo, the new nook will already handle ePub from Kobo.

Other than B&N, Kobo and Amazon. Any manufacturer could decide to release an E-ink android device. Specially after that video demonstration showing the potential refresh rate for E-ink. It could be put to good use. Readers, excursionists, students, Professionals on the move. All the people who need basic e-mailing, browsing, Android PDF support and still have a lot more than 7-10 hourse of juice in the device.

If B&N can put a special version of Android in their e-reader why can't anyone do it with the stock version and android market. I bet they would sell like pancakes.

It's just wishful thinking.

Nope.
It's been considered:

Might yet be released.

Problem is, the Kindle, Kobo, and B&N android apps are all useful but lacking when compared to the brand-specific hardware so the universal reader will be more of a jack of all trades reader. The Kindle limitations can be mitigated by adding the audible app and the cloud player, but you'll still lack TTS. Similarly, the others will leave you with feature gaps here and there.

I only care about book synching with the corresponding stores(Whispernet, Kobo Syncing, etc). I don't need TTS, audibles or any special feature. Only for reading.

For what it's worth, if all other things were equal in terms of form and functionality and so forth, I would prefer a 3rd party eReader myself -- I have a Nook and a Nook Color, but I prefer to not buy the "store" readers.

I have a PocketBook 360 and love it very much. But that's linux and that wasn't what you were asking.

You can now root a nook touch and, I'm assuming, get what you want, a stock Android e-ink device. There isn't a lot of information out there yet, but it does exist. Just don't plan on playing Angry Birds on it.

Rooted Nook WiFi loaded with Angry Birds, soars then stalls (video)

Because they're two totally different markets, I have a Kobo for reading and a Android phone for surfing, calling, texting. If they made a device that did both it wouldn't read as good as a reader, and it wouldn't be as good of a computer/tablet/phone.
