If you read only one of the Bret Harte books that I will be posting, this is the book to read. It is as close as it gets to a Greatest Hits collection.
His two most famous short stories are here -- "The Luck of Roaring Camp" and "The Outcasts of Poker Flat."
Think of this volume as a litmus test for Harte, if you don't like these stories you are not going to like the rest of his writings. If you do like these stories then enjoy the rest of the books that I will be posting.
