So, we're just a day shy of 2 weeks into a brand new year and surely it's time for a holiday?! ;)

Who has holiday plans for 2011 and where are you going?

Amazing how early people's thoughts turn to holidays :D

We (wife, children, parents-in-law, brother-in-law and his family) are going to Lake Como in Italy for a week in late July/Early August.

That's all we have planned so far, but no doubt other things wil crop up during the year.

Haha, January blues.

Beautiful. I visited Lake Como last June for a day (stayed in Milan).

I stayed home and guarded the candy canes on the tree from three thieving kids.

Just 4 days away from the next holiday - Martin L King Jr's birthday. It's good for time-and-a-half or a 3-day weekend depending on your schedule. I'm working, so that means an extra half day's pay; which I plan to use to buy covers for my new ereaders. Thanks Marty :D

Disney World four days in March. Not a huge trip since we live only a 90 mile drive from it. We get a FL resident discount so get to go lots.

Road trip up the east coast to WV and MD in June for a week.

Maybe an impromptu cruise if some good last minute deals come up. If you can go on a few weeks notice or less they can be had for up to 75% off. :)

For Christmas this year, extended family heading down here where I will be hosting Christmas for 20+. Even the son-in-laws families will be coming. Looking forward to it.:)

2011 should be a great year.

Sorry, I can't say anything useful here 'cause I've haven't made up my plans yet, but I've found your nickname in connection with your question funny. I'd rather expected this question from someone with the nickname "start__dreaming":D

Planning to go to Wolverhampton, where I studied, for three or four day in May or June.

In July/August I'll be house/cat/dog sitting at friends for three weeks (not really a holiday since I'll be working, but still). And if my aunt and uncle decide to go away for a couple of weeks after the summer holidays I'll look after their cat and house too.

A good way of getting "free" holidays - I'll be doing two weeks cat/house/car sitting in London for my son at some point in the summer. Being a "foreigner" my wife thinks it's a real treat to have all of London on hand!

It's a fair way off, but I'm going to Egypt for two weeks over next Christmas. It's a place I've wanted to visit for years, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Are you doing the Nile cruise? I'm quite jealous. That's one of my "dream" trips I'm dying to take.

I'm just curious (and I hope I will not be accused of hijacking this thread):
how many vacation days your big boss is giving you?

I need a holiday badly. Christmas wasn't precisely restful... :p I'll be visiting my sister in Miami in February. At least I'll get to see a bit of blue sky. And no snow

It's a 7-day Nile cruise, followed by 4 days on Lake Nasser (ie above the Aswan dam), and finally three days in Cairo. It's very much my "dream" trip, too. Costing me a blooming fortune, but I've been saving up for it for the last two years. When I "did" Egypt I wanted to do it "properly".

You're so right; I always wanted to go too, but my husband doesn't and if he isn't about to become sensible about this; I might just go by myself one day ! &* :) :D

At least I've got more sense than a neighbour of mind who went in August, because it was cheap. They found it a little on the warm side ;). Winter is peak season in Egypt, which is why I'm going at Christmas :).

Exactly!

I know of a couple of people who have been to Egypt (Sharm El Sheikh) and not seen the Nile or the Pyramids.

I've been there in 2009. Wonderful and beautiful. But if you ever go; go also to Syria: Damascus, Aleppo; such beautiful Roman buildings and such I never saw. And than Jordania: the desert where Lawrence of Arabia fought and the cave where he hid himself. But Petra: really is astonishing, beautiful. But don't go for just one day in Petra, but 2 or 3. It's not just the treasury, but also all kind of other buildings and tombs.

:offtopic:
I was widowed twelve years ago after nursing a dying, cancer-ridden husband for two years. I also waited for the anniversary before scattering his ashes. One feels that it is somehow symbolic, and it feels difficult to part with them before that - it is the finality that hurts.

My sympathies to you and your mother.

when Dad decided to die, he was quick about it. 18 days from hospital admission to death. I'm REALLY not looking forward to this, there are some raw open wounds between my mother, sister and I

KK, If anyone tells you that their family is like The Brady Bunch, they are lying through their teeth. I learned to use 'The Dome of Silence', where I was pleasant, smiled a lot, and got the heck out of there as soon as possible. I also learned to not bad-mouth anyone, as it can come back in years to come and bite you on the bum. In other words *just be a spectator*, even when you feel like running amok with a hatchet.

You need a few days off to just be a 'female'. No rescuing, saving, bungy jumping, fishin' 'n huntin', attacking, mountain climbing or roughing it. Let go!

Lecture is over, and it's all meant sincerely.

Cheers
