This is my favourite Charlotte Bronte.
I've added a picture, TOC and reformatted so as to include proper emdashes; also the italics now extend to adjacent punctuation because this looks so much better on the Sony Reader.
Plot Summary:
As a result of adverse circumstances, the heroine, Lucy Snowe - poor, plain and stubborn - becomes an English teacher in a girls' school in Villette (a fictionalised Brussels). She falls for a handsome doctor but realises that there will never be more than friendship between them. After a nervous breakdown, she grows close to the literature professor, M. Paul Emanuel. But, will there be a happy ending? And what is the mysterious ghostly nun, who wanders round the school at night...?
