Celebrate Jane Austen's Birthday with Free Books!
Update: As of 2:20PM EST, these are now all (but #7) free in the Kindle store.
Courtesy of Sourcebooks, on December 16 (Thursday), you can celebrate Jane Austen's 235th birthday by downloading a number of special, illustrated editions of her books, as well as a long list of Austen-inspired modern novels, all at no charge! This will be a one-day only drop in price, so get the ones you want while they are free. I'm posting this list ahead of the sale, so be sure to check that it has dropped to $0.00 before one-clicking. By Jane Austen Emma: The Illustrated Edition Mansfield Park: The Illustrated Edition Northanger Abbey: The Illustrated Edition Persuasion: The Illustrated Edition Pride and Prejudice: The Illustrated Edition Sense and Sensibility: The Illustrated Edition Austen Inspired The Darcys & the Bingleys, by Marsha Altman Eliza’s Daughter, by Joan Aiken Lydia Bennet’s Story, by Jane Odiwe Mr. Darcy’s Diary, by Amanda Grange Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife, by Linda Berdoll Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, by Abigail Reynolds Mr. & Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy: Two Shall Become One, by Sharon Lathan The Other Mr. Darcy, by Monica Fairview The Pemberley Chronicles, by Rebecca Ann Collins What Would Jane Austen Do?, by Laurie Brown These are also supposed to be free from B&N (Austen titles & Austen titles), as well as at other stores where Sourcebooks' titles are sold. Update: Fixed the B&N links. Books are also free on iBooks (all but one of the illustrated editions. So far (9:42AM EST), nothing is free at Amazon, Kobo or Sony. Will check again later, but ice storm has knocked out power here. Update #2: The illustrated editions are now free at B&N. Click on the two links above and all of the freebies will be at the top of the two lists. The inspired editions are also free from Google Books (except Lydia Bennet's Story; not in the store). Amazon and Sony are said to be "working" on the prices; Sourcebooks also is extending the sale an additional day (perhaps Amazon will get their prices fixed by then). Thanks! So far I've been able to get all the Austen inspired books at Barnes & Noble for free. Have'nt yet been able to get the Austen illustrated books there, or any of them at Amazon.

Harry is being very modest in his post above, but the truth is the Jane Austen titles here at MobileRead are illustrated and have been lovingly compiled by him.
I don't believe you'll find a more attractive edition than ones here at MobileRead. And they're all free. Don |

Hmm... definitely April 16, even in the States, but still not free. B&N link isn't working. Are you sure of the date?

I agree that the Austen books available here on MR are very good. And they're always free, to everyone, and DRM free too

They're all free right now on iBooks (except for Mansfield Park which is $0.99)

The "Austen Inspired" books are now free on B&N, but not the actual Jane Austen books.

The "Austen-inspired" books are all free on Google Bookstore. There are links on this page.
I cannot speak for the quality of any of these books. Well, I could, but I won't, except to say that Mr. Darcy's Diary is pretty good. ETA: Just heard from a Sourcebooks rep that Google and iBooks should be good to go. Nook Books has the free books as well. And because of the mixup, they are extending the offer for an additional day. Last edited by MaggieScratch; 12-16-2010 at 11:22 AM. |
