That is very cool indeed! But unfortunately a lot of blogs' RSS feeds only deliver a few lines per article (yours & mine for a couple of examples!), requiring the user to click through to read the whole article. Never considered this an issue, since I think most RSS readers are desktop/laptop based.
But if this activity gets popular, may have to overhaul the xml code to make the full article display.
sUnShInE 09-28-2003, 04:20 PM Gary: I was thinking exactly that as I was running the demo version of the app yesterday. As a 'custom' channel, I tried one of the Yahoo! News RSS feeds, which only came out as edited. This is fine if you have online access, where you can point and click to receive the whole post; but not helpful to those of use who will download via the conduit. All it does at that point is tease and frustrate.
Another note: this is obviously the first version of the software, and the developers need to work out some "issues" (formating comes to mind, as does content tweaks -- some of the subscriptions that they give you to try out don't work...Salon was one of them, ClieSource was another.).
I'm fairly convinced that this is the start to a great foray in this area -- and much needed & welcome by heavy content-readers like us! :D
Alexander: Of *course*! That's exactly what I was thinking immediately: What a great way to pick up turcic.com to go! ;)
gvtexas 09-28-2003, 07:44 PM Exactly, Lynn.
I tried it today and it flat didn't work on my Clie (would do everything except display the newsfeeds!). I emailed the developer (Ben) and to my surprise he answered within about 15 minutes! After a volley of emails and me sending him the parsed file, he modified the .dll and sent me an update, and it worked fine.
He seems extremely responsive, and appreciative of the feedback (so if anyone's using it, please send in comments/suggestions).
For a PDA with a 'net connection, it's a nice setup. For those of us without it who rely on syncing, it's not as nice, but still usable if the feeds one pulls are those that have complete contents.
I also put in a suggestion for them to develop a usenet reader (there really isn't a decent alternative out there), and he expressed a lot of interest in this if and after the Hand/RSS is successful.
Cheers,
Gary
sUnShInE 09-29-2003, 10:38 AM Oh cool!
Another great developer who responds to user feedback. Me likey! :D
(thinking to self) So is there an updated version I should go d/l?

No, none posted. If you can see your feeds, then you're fine. Don't know if the problem I had was unique or warranted an update release.
I have worked with this developer before on Super Names, the only address thingie out there that will handle multiple databases. Mine kept crashing, and he kept sending me updated versions to try (and this was when I was evaluating the software and hadn't even bought it yet), so yeah, these guys are pretty atypical.
Cheers,
Gary
sUnShInE 09-29-2003, 04:10 PM Actually, I noticed on their site that just the prc was listed as 9/28 and the app was released on 9/26....
I did hafta hard reset twice today in the midst of writing a huge presentation (grrr). I'm not convinced that this was def the culprit though.
Thanks for the intel :)
Maybe that helps too...

I've been reading some of the Yahoo! news content via their site: http://news.yahoo.com/rss/
Do these Yahoo! feeds have any more/better content?
