Believe it when I see it. I've seen to many readers that "are coming to the US" that just never seem to arrive.

same for the EU on many devices...^^

I'd like to get some details on formats and battery-life...especially how the page-count is calculated and whether you have to switch the device off to get a month of battery...

Or better...just send me a sample... :deal:

We await our models from the plant at the end of May. During June we want to send out them for the testing. I will compulsorily place one in the reserve for you. ---- There can be small delay in the production of first party, approximately 2 weeks.

Hopping up and down to get a sample device for free :-)
You never know. It may work. I can alternatively offer chicken sacrifice.

I see some sane design decisions. No fancy WLAN or Bluetooth which only drains the battery. Also no high-speed USB for the same reason. The SD cards are good enough to transfer bigger amounts of data.

Are there any plans to sell in the UK, or at least make it easily available here? :)

I'd be happy to organize focus group usability testing on non-technical users in the U.S. I can get you written reports from 20 users -- all ages, different levels of computer experience, all people who love books and could be very interested in this device-- if you can provide a test unit. I've done usability focus group work professionally. PM me if interested.

Edit: Also, I work at a university, so I can show it to faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, etc. I think there will be a lot of interest.

The characters seem finer that those of a librie/Reader.

Does it uses a new generation eink screen?

In lBook V3 it will be used screens Viziplex. But, PVI only plans their release for August, 2007. Viziplex it will be really used in lBook V3 since October, 2007

So looks TXT Reader for reading of txt-files. The program supports only formatting of lines with a hyphenation, font size change, screen turn on 90 and notes. - it is enough for the majority of cases of such functionality

The device will be supports open formats FB2, PDF, TXT, RTF, DOC, CHM, HTML, Wolf... We are ready to develop reader for support of other formats of files. At desire you can make it using open SDK!

So looks the panel of a choice of language of the interface (now 10 languages). Modern language addition occupies few minutes!

Very nice. I like the placement of the two sets of page turn buttons.

On the text display page, do you know what the little 1 and 2 in boxes at the lower left of the screen are for? Is it size information, maybe? Or something else entirely?

And is that a search function sharing the #8 key?

The page turn buttons on the left side really do need to be higher up. On the Sony they are higher up and it's still not high enough for proper placement.

We have a variant with other position of buttons. The center of weights of the device is considered.

The touch screen is available in plans for development of this model.
We plan, that pen and WiFi the given model will receive a in October-November, 2007.

Comparison of 3 devices of one class (SONY Reader, lBook eReader V3, STAReBOOK):

Give the three readers in the picture, the STAReBOOK is out because it is not showing a book. The IBook is out because the paragraph indents are way to large. The Sony is the winner because it looks the best reading a book.

I will not argue with fan SONY. It is useless. :)

SONY Reader can and it is beautiful on a picture, but this device is not able elementary to show and format TXT-files. Not beautiful lBook Reader shows TXT, PDF, RTF, FB2, CHM, HTML, RSS, Wol. You can specify the menu in 16 languages. The device has opened SDK and all interested persons can write for it the software.

Now already the version of the device with WiFi is tested. In August sales lBook with Viziplex - the screen will begin.

..lBook Reader shows TXT, PDF, RTF, FB2, CHM, HTML, RSS, Wol.

We've yet to see any real evidence of that, and judging by past devices, it'll only show those formats only if you convert it first to WOL. Are you saying these have native support for all these formats?

The device has opened SDK and all interested persons can write for it the software.
I notice a forum thread on Jinkes message board asking about SDK and source code access. It's been unanswered for over 6 months now. Are we to see a renewed effort from them on this front also?

The device understands all these formats without preliminary converting in Wolf :smash:
Moreover, lBook V3 it is capable to read them in format ZIP and in future RAR.

For software developers we plan to open in the near future a WEB-site where you will find SDK and source code. Our experts will offer the help and consultation.

That sounds very promising. I'm eager to see the capabilities of it's PDF reader. Hopefully it'll give us a taste of what's to come on the up-coming V9.

V9 It will be developed on the basis of V3. But there are real difficulties at PVI with manufacture of big displays (9.7").

Even Vizplex - the display on V3 will have only 4 levels grey, instead of 8. Term of readiness of chip and new screen with 3-bit management is declared in 160 days.

We hope earlier to receive the big screens on plastic substrates from LG-Philips :p

Has anyone placed the order yet??

I got the same e-mail, and have recived additional info:
---------------
Thanks for your mail. The V3 is our latest product which you can’t buy forms Shanghai or Beijing. I think you have two ways to get the device.

The first way is come to our company and gets one form our domestic sale department directly.

The other way is order from my department (oversea department). The order procedure as following

Firstly you provide us your information for delivery, including receiver/address/telephone number.
Secondly, we count the whole price (V3 price plus delivery fee), and offer you our bank account
Thirdly, you wire the payment to our bank account.
Fourthly, after we check your payment in our bank account, we'll send the product to you by Express mail. (the product will reach you within one week.)

Best regards,
------------------

I've provided them with address etc, and I'm now waiting for them to calculate the total price. I definitely want to buy, but I am a little concerned about making the pre-payment. However – they've been in business for quite some time now, so I guess there's no need to worry...? I'm also curious about cost of shipping and taxes (I live in Europe).

@LVD

A rather long while agao there was talk of getting a sample unit of the V3 to me. Last I heard everything was "On Schedule", but I have not heard any news on this from you.

What's the status at the moment?

I was quoted us$67 for shipping to the UK. Seems quite reasonable.

Trono

Same price to Norway - $67 for shipping all the way from China does'nt seem bad at all.

Adding up the price + taxes makes it quite a bit more expensive though. As far as I can see, the total of taxes amounts to $141 in Norway - that's an additional 36 % compared to the payment to Jinke (price + shipping), making the total $537 :-(
