Hi,
Whenever I download project gutenburg etexts onto my reader, things like quotes (" or ') and up being its value (&23bx or somesuch...I just made that up), which is probably good for a computer to interpret, but looks ugly to me. Do you guys do some kind of preprocessing to clean stuff like this out before you upload to your reader? Or am I downloading these files incorrectly? Specifically, I'm referring to the ASCII versions of the texts.

thanks,

You could try doing a find/replace operation in Word .... :nice:

Yeah, gutenberg books usually require some clean-up for me. There are some tools out there that can do this for you, take a look at the Wiki for conversion or some of the posts in the book upload section.

If it's just something you're going to read once and probably not bother with again, try using Stingo's "Word" macro to clean up the file and save it as RTF to read on the Reader.

If it's something you plan to keep longer term, you might with to consider doing a more thorough editing job with "Book Designer" and converting it into a proper Sony Reader "LRF" file. See the "Tutorial" thread in the "Book Uploads" section for info on doing that.
