I was eating lunch, and reading, of course (or should I say Reading, as I was using my Reader?), and someone asked me what I was reading. My first thought was to tell her the name of the book I was reading (John Ringo's & Tom Kratman's Yellow Eyes), but I had trouble coming up with the title. My second thought was that she was asking what my Reader was.

The conversation went on from there in the well-worn course I've come to know (and enjoy) so well in the last 6 months or so: is it electronic, how do you get books, do you just download them, let me tell you about the screen, I last charged 2.5 weeks ago and look how much battery life I've got left, etc.

After the conversation ran its course, and the person went on her way, I got to thinking about it, and realized a couple of things. The first was that I had trouble remembering the title of the book that I was reading. At the time, I thought it was due to not seeing the cover every time I pick it up, but now I realize I always have trouble remembering that bit of information, and before, I've just usually used the cover as a crutch, so I don't ever have to remember that detail.

The second thing I realized is that I've become so accustomed to the Reader, that when asked what I was reading, I took it as an inquiry as to the novel, rather than the device. I'd passed a milestone in my mental landscape, and hadn't even realized it.

I haven't really reached any conclusions as to what that might mean, or if it means anything at all, but it seems significant enough to share.

You use BD for your Baen books, don't you Nat? If you check the "Header" box on the "Options" screen it'll put the book title at the top of each page as a header, so you won't forget what you're reading .

Awesome post. I'd like to experience telling people what the Reader is. Then again, it's a sign that I should go out more.

An other thing you forgot. She was picking you up! :laugh4::laugh4: HA! No, I don't think so, she was a teen-ager and had Mom along. But, thanks, Yvan, that suggestion does good things for my self-esteem. :laugh4:

I had this problem also some days ago. I was reading "Im Westen nichts neues" (All Quiet on the Western Front) by Erich Maria Remarque on my Handera 330 and then a friend asked me what book I was reading and I had to think some seconds wich book it is. Normaly I would have tourned the paperback to the frontpage and looked for the title.

I had to read this book for school, but it was the first book from school that I really liked. I reallly was magnetized when reading it. A pitty that the book has only that few pages. I normally read thick books with min. 300 pages.
