Hello,

is there anyone in the USA who would do me this favor?

- I send him the money for the Reader, Shipping to him and to Germany by PayPal or CC.
- He buys an Sony Reader and lets it beeing shiped to him
- He sells the Sony Reader to me for an symbolic price of 10 US$ and sends it to Germany.
- The German customs will then only charge 2 US$ instead of 75 US$ to me.

In Germany customs are measured by the purchase price when selling from privte to private. And it's legal, I asked a Customs Officer. If the packet contains a copy of the sale contract, the value mentioned in the contract will be used.

If anyone would provide me this help, or has questions, please contact me via PM or Mail.

Best Regards

Fabian

What are you going to do if it gets damaged in the mail, and all you can claim back on the insurance is $10, because that's all you're claiming it's worth?

We all have to pay our taxes. Don't try to cheat the system - pay up, like everyone else!

Yeah, that is the thing with claiming a low value, if it gets messed up in the mail you are out of luck. Speaking as someone who has shipped a Reader internationally for a member here I wouldn't feel comfortable with that risk.

My friend send it to me without invoice and I didn't have to pay import tax. They probably didn't know what it was and didn't want to spend time figuring it out. The whole package was wrapped with tape saying: Opened by Dutch customs for investigation. :)

I was lucky my friend forgot to add the invoice.

As far as I know the German customs are goven on the expected value if no invoice is included. It seems like the duttch customs are a bit lazy, so they don't do that :)

I think i'll pay the 73 US$ taxes, because of shipping insurance.

I ran into something like this when I was trying to sell my bagpipes. I had a guy in the UK send me traveler’s checks and he wanted me to arrange shipping with his shipper. He was supposed to send me the price of the pipes and the shipping costs. I later found out that the checks were counterfeit and that this was the newest internet scam. I am not saying that you have a scam in mind, but it sounds a lot like the same situation, and if anyone is interested in bagpipes I still have them for sale.

Yeah, that can happen with checks, at least paypal gives you a thin layer of protection.
