Interesting development from Dixons, including a 10" 1024x600 Android tablet with 10 hour battery life for 250:

That's certainly a great improvement on the 3h battery life of the Next tablet!

Video of the new Dixons 10" tablet in action. Now supposed to be on sale from 18th October at 249. Looks like a winner to me, at least in the Android 2.2 market.

I think if Dixons promote it, this could sell very well, targeted as a cheaper iPad. The price is certainly very attractive.

I think so too. (For those not familiar with the UK, Dixons Group dominates the high street with its Currys shops and the larger PC World stores. These are where most people would go to get a hands on taste of computing devices.)

They've pitched it not too much more than half the price of the cheapest iPad and although you get less screen real estate and memory you still get enough. And customers will also see that there are areas where they are getting more: webcam, expandable memory, USB port, HD video out.

For many people it may actually be a more useful device than the iPad, given the webcam and USB port in particular.

Dixons are also positioning themselves very well for the follow-up release of Android 3.0, perhaps even as an update on this hardware.
