Hyperlink navigation mode not working

Hi all,

I'm using the OpenInkpot 20091103 snapshot on my BeBook (Hanlin v3ext). I tried using the "hyperlink navigation mode (http://openinkpot.org/wiki/0.2/UsersGuide#Hyperlinksnavigationmode)" in an epub-file, but it doesn't seem to work.
When I press 8, the first hyperlink gets highlighted, and I can switch to the next links by using the arrow keys.
However, I can't follow a link, since pressing 8 again just exits the "hyperlink navigation mode". Pressing OK while a link is selected does nothing.

Any ideas on this?

LED in upper, left corner is red when connected With USB cable

Dear all.

I have just bought a Hanliv V3 and installed OpenInkpot on the device. Seems to work fine. But when I connect the device to my PC with a USB cable the LED in the upper red corner is red. I assume it should be yellow or green?? It does not connect and the OS reports it can't find drivers for the device. It doesn't ask whether to continue charging the battery or connect instead. It worked fine with the original firmware. Is this an error or what?

I have tried searching the fora, but i have not found anything helping me with this.

Anybody??

Cheers

I'm making an epub out of several short stories.
Kovid helped me get the TOC how I wanted it looking i.e.

Title of Story
Chapter
Title of Story

which is showing up great in Calibre reader.

On my Hanlin and the desktop fbreader only the title of the last story is showing (it used to be only the last chapter of the last story).

Is this a limitation in fbreader?

Help bricked Elonex eb600 anyone got firmware image

Hi
I don't know if this is right place to post this basically i have bricked my elonex eb600 within 4hrs of owning it (dumb) without backing up firmware (downright idiotic!!):smack:. Basically i tried to install cool-er firmware on my elonex following these instructions http://www.coolreaders.com/fw.asp. My guess is that it ran the script below. The image 01.jpg is displayed maybe forever on my e-ink display. My guess is the hardware is different (has epson and serial boot flash) and have added what i have found out to openinkpot wiki. I hope that uboot is still working and will try serial when i get max3232cpe device tomorrow if not try jtag.
The problem is that i haven't got a copy of the original uboot , kernel or filesystem does anyone have a copy.

Thanks tony

Page numbering and counting

Hi,

Since flashing to the rc-3 firmware onto my BeBook I've noticed the page numbering doesn't work properly. Here's the things I've noticed.

1: The total number of pages doesn't seem right. For example a 491 page mmpb shows up as 265 pages on my BeBook. In the past every ebook I have read has had more "pages" than the pbook version.
2: The total number of pages doesn't change regardless of font size.
3: The page number doesn't always advance when I turn the page. In fact it almost always takes two page turns before the page number advances, however sometimes it will change after just one page turn.

These problems happen in both epub and fb2 formats.

Has anyone else experienced these problems?

Cheers,
PKFFW

Translating OpenInkpot is easy! How to contribute your language to OI.

Hi,

with the next release coming closer, this article is a short reminder that even for a non-programmer, it is *very easy to contribute a translation* to the OpenInkpot project. So if you want the OI e-reader GUI in your language, just translate it yourself and everybody else speaking your language will benefit.

Just follow the instructions of the Localization Guide (http://openinkpot.org/wiki/LocalizationGuide) and register for an account in the web-based translation tool Transifex (http://l10n.openinkpot.org/).

It shouldn't take much longer than an evening of work, since the GUI is made of only a few text strings. Even the longer help texts aren't that long.

(Note: If I remember correctly, right-to-left text rendering is still being worked on, so languages requiring rtol will not work at the moment.)

Regards,

Hanno

Has jffs2 file system "infected" my BeBooks?

As previously reported in other threads on this forum, I have two BeBooks. On one I have variously either of the two Endless Ideas BeBook firmware versions installed, and on the other I have the Open Inkpot evolving jffs2 file system snapshots.

Recently I tried installing the new OI live snapshot on the SD card of my BeBook with the Endless Ideas firmware. The live OI eventually seemed to function OK from the SD card, but I discovered it had apparently rendered inoperative the main storage area for use of my Endless Ideas firmware on the device. I tried reformatting and reloading the Endless Ideas firmware on this device, but could not get it to recognize any titles in the main memory (which my PC revealed were there). I could however access and read titles with the Endless Ideas firmware from my SD card.

I then tried installing the Endless Ideas firmware on my other BeBook, the one on which I had installed the latest OI snapshot. I was successful apparently in installing the Endless Ideas firmware on that other BeBook of mine -- but AGAIN, no titles could be read from the main memory now on this device either. I tried reformatting the main memory, again to no avail.

I am left therefore with the concern that the jffs2 file system currently employed on the OI snapshots has so "infected" my BeBooks that in the future I will only be able to use them for Open Inkpot if I want to store any of my titles in main memory. Very DEVIOUS of its creators to lock users into the OI system in this way! (Am I jesting. I don't know.)

FB2 and EPUB questions?

Hi,

I'm using snapshot 20091001 on my BeBook and I have a couple of questions I hope someone can help me with.

1: I keep trying to open a couple of FB2 files of 1.4mb and 1.5mb respectively and instead of loading the screen just flashes a couple of times and then goes back to the folder with those two files listed in it. The files work fine when displayed on my computer. Is there an upper usuable limit on the FB2 file format?

2: On all my epub files the indent that is supposed to be at the start of the first line of each paragraph is not being displayed. I have the "first line indent" thing marked to 20. When I display the files on my computer the indents are there. They are just gone when I put them on the BeBook. The indents are displayed in FB2 files and that is why I'm trying to read the above mentioned books in that format.

Any help? Suggestions? etc?

Cheers,
PKFFW
P.S: I used Calibre to convert the FB2 and epub files and it seems to have worked fine. Not sure if that is relevant but thought I'd add it just in case.
P.P.S Other FB2 files I've converted using Calibre are displaying fine but they are all under 1mb.

OpenInkpot: free software for e-book readers (http://lwn.net/Articles/354714/), by Hanno Zulla, appears to be a good overview of the project. This should raise the project profile in the Linux community (I found it via Linux Today), and the article ends with:

If you are a kernel developer with an e-ink reader lying around, you may just have found an exciting new hacking target.
