How can I remove spaces from folder and file names?

Due to a bug with bookmark saving, I need to not have spaces, or special characters, in the folder and file names that Calibre makes when I send books to my device.

I found a config setting to control this when clicking on the 'save to disk', but not one for the 'send to device'. I tried it anyway, but it doesn't seem to have any effect on 'send to device'.

Is it possible to avoid the numbers between parenthesis in the folder name of a book?

I see that when adding a book to Calibre it puts the book into a folder whose name is the name of the book plus a number between brackets. It seem that this number is an auto-incremental key used by Calibre.

I know that the Calibre idea is to manage the books through the software, without going through the folder hierarchy. But sometimes I found navigating through the folders more straightforward and I found that "numbers between parenthesis" a bit annoying since it is a Calibre internal key that it is not related with the book name or author.

Is it possible to avoid this numbers in the folder name? Or is a Calibre "feature" that is needed for its functioning and we have to cope with it?

By the way... congratulations to the author for his amazing software.

Adding a new cover for LRF

Hi,
I want to change the cover for a LRF book, so I add the image and then reconvert it in LRF again but the book is not converted correctly. The new LRF book has this order: new cover, blank page, page 1, blank page, page 2, blank page, ... so, is it a problem of calibre (0.6.19) or adding a new cover for LRF is not possible??

conversion to Mobi - Colors lost

I'm trying to convert a file that has white text to mobi format (I want some text to be invisible, it's just there for search purposes). I have tried to do it from different input formats and with different output profiles, but the text always changes to black. When I convert for example to epub the color doesn't change.

If I use mobipocket creator or html2mobi the conversion to mobi works fine.

Any idea?

Upgrading MAC - Help!

I am currently using Mac OSX 10.8 on a G4 Power PC with Caliber 5.14.

Can anyone out there suggest the best way to find / transfer my library and ensure a painless upgrade?

Also - ADEditions - what should I do and ditto Sony Library?

Will I have to re-register my reader - HELP - very confused!:blink:

Any other ideas / suggestions / help?

Error with Calibre and etickets

Hi all

My english is not so god. sorry.

At first: Calibre is a great software. Thank.

But i have one Problem with Calibre, and this problem is with the older and with the newer version of Calibre.

I have add many eBooks in pdf and epub Format in Calibre and have makes collections with the etickets. Than i have load all the Books with calibre in my Reader Sony PRS 505. All Fine. Perfect all my books and collections are in my reader.

Now i have see that i have a error in the name. So i have delete 5 books on the SD Card, have corrected the error in calibre and have load the 5 books in my Reader. Its fine. The books are there. But all my Collections are missing. So i must delete all the 1000 Books, format the SD Card and than i can load the books.

Now i have tested:
1. I have load 1000 Books with etickets from Calibre to the Reader.
2. I have read the Book on the Reader.
3. I have insert a New Book with an Eticket to Calbire and load it to Reader.

And its the same proble. Now i missing all collections on my reader.

What can i do that i have my collections when i load a new ebook to the reader without i lost my collections?

EPUB Margin Adjustment

Hi,

I find that commercial EPUBs often have much too large margins for my taste (when reading them on my PRS-505), so I generally strip the DRM (for my own use only!) and adjust the margins by doing en EPUB->EPUB conversion in calibre. This works well for many files, but there are some where the output still has large margins even if I set calibre to generate zero margins. I can work around this by doing and EPUB->LIT->EPUB conversion, which always seems to work, but was wondering if there's anything obvious I could be missing.

Server help please

I've recently unistalled Norton's and have begun using Comodo internet security. Under Norton's I had had the server working with outside/internet access as well as intranet access for my ipod touch and my son's iphone.

Now, the router configuration is unchanged, the "server test" works fine, but neither of us can access calibre though the http --- even if I turn the firewall off completely.

Any ideas???

hi, I am new to calibre and played a little bit.

I did not find proxy setting in calibre. I did some google things but not satisified still.

so, I know calibre is using proxy setting in windows environment setting, why don't just add proxy setting inside calibr ?

I am using my laptop in office and home, a proxy at office, home not.
and generally i am using .pac file - proxy script in IE for windows evironment, which seems not be detected by calibre. I do not want to set proxy IP into win-env, since i have to change it back at home.

so, any comments ? something I was missing ? thanks.

Stanza won't list enews in Calibre

Hi,

I have Stanza (on iPHone) working with Calibre (6.20) very smoothly, until last night. My Stanza can see my notebook in "Shared Library", but when tapping to go for the library, it keeps on searching until time-out.

I tried deleting some ebooks in the library, but not help.

Any idea what should have caused this problem?

Remove spacing between paragraphs - what about div tags ?

Currently I converting a few html files to epub.

I use the paragraph tags

and

to mark a new paragraph (wow, who would have thought that)

When I convert from html to epub, I use the "Remove spacing between paragraphs" command. I know, this command sets an intent of 1.5 em on a paragraph - and I love it. With this, my ebooks look even closer to real books.

However, latelty I started to use div tags in the html files to to "enhance" the look of the text. For example, I use margin-left and margin-right on a few lines, so that the outfit of some of the text differs from the rest of the text.

In this case, the special text is a list of things with numbers in front of it.
I want it to look like:

normal text, normal text, normal text,

normal text, normal text, normal text,
normal text, normal text, normal text,

1.special text, special text
2.special text, special text
3.special text, special text

normal text, normal text, normal text,

normal text, normal text, normal text,
normal text, normal text, normal text,
normal text, normal text, normal text,

As I said, I use div tags for this (I am a novice on html so maybe I am wrong, but personally, I think div tags are great).

However, this also caused some problems, because the "Remove spacing between paragraphs" command not only sets an intent on the p-tag but also on the div tags.

So now my text looks something like:

normal text, normal text, normal text,

normal text, normal text, normal text,
normal text, normal text, normal text,

1.special text, special text
2.special text, special text
3.special text, special text

normal text, normal text, normal text,

normal text, normal text, normal text,
normal text, normal text, normal text,
normal text, normal text, normal text,

See what I mean ? The list part doesn't look even anymore. The "1" has an intent - even thought I don't want it to have on.

I noticed all this stuff is can be changed by editing the stylesheet.css file - but this can become tedious.

So, to sum it all up: Is there a way to tell Calibre to set an intent on the p tags - but to leave the div tags alone ?

calibre-server on port 80 problem

Hi,

I'm running under ubuntu 9.04 amd64. Calibre version 6.20. Installed using binary installer as an upgrade from 6.16.

I want to run the calibre-server under port 80, so my kindle will connect to it ok. I've changed the apache on this system to use port 81, so no conflict there I hope.

The GUI won't let me change the port to anything below 1025, so I tried to run from the command line:

calibre-server -p 80

as a test. When I run as a non sudo user I get the following:

0.6.20 Send to device - kindle

I'm getting a strange response when trying to send books to my kindle.

I choose a book in prc format, click send to kindle. Calibre sends the book to kindle but the choose format screen remains open. I click ok then I get a pop-up that says Warning: no suitable formats. I click ok and it goes back to the choose format screen. It goes in a never ending loop. In the meantime, the book was sent to the kindle already on the first try.

I have not encountered this with previous versions of calibre. I am running Win XP.

Metadata to Reader

When I have converted some books to LRF format I've checked off "insert metadata at start of book." I love this feature because sometimes I like to add some comments of my own to the metadata - date downloaded, who recommended, if it was a freebie etc. Then the comments are right with me on the reader.

It seems the only way I can do this is by converting from one format to another. Some LRFs I've actualy run through the converter to another LRF, which seems silly. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and I get a message that says "no suitable source format."

Is there any simpler way in Calibre do this with my LRF books?

Sony PRS-505 Metadata

Hi,

I have a Sony PRS-505 and, when I send books to SD card on the device, the device lists the filename as the book title and doesn't separate out title for the author. Oddly, it does pick out collection metadata.

Using Calibre 0.6.20 with PRS-505 with firmware up to date.

Any help would be appreciated.
