Time zone - can this be changed?

My International Kindle lives in Luxembourg (CET timezone) but always shows GMT (UK time). I've searched around quite a bit but I've not found any way to adjust the time zone manually.

My Kindle is obviously getting its time correctly via Whispernet - it adjusted for the end of summer-time correctly two weekend ago - it's only the timezone which is wrong.

Any suggestions?

I decided last night to download firefox as explorer was having a tantrum (this is a new laptop). So this morning as I am browsing another forum, at the bottom left of the browser was this message:

"sending data from uts.amazon.com"

Now, I have downloaded books from Amazon using this computer, but has anyone else noticed this message? Should I be concerned about big brother? I was not on an Amazon site at the time, nor had been on Amazon site when I opened the browser for this session.

Mobipocket Guide stuck on 10/23

The Mobilread Mobipocket guide is stuck on 10/23 since 10/23, at least for me, whether I use whispernet to get it, or download it to my computer. The filename (today) is 11/06, but when I look at it in Mobi2mobi the name is 10/23, and all the updates stop at 10/23.

Since I get the same problem any way I get the guide, I think it's a problem with the guide. But then since I don't see any posts about it, maybe it's me (or no one else uses it but that's hard to imagine, since it's so great).

Of course, I can still get the books via USB, but I love using whispernet to check them out.

So I'm torn between the Kindle DX and the Nook.

Will Calibre work and transfer mobi books directly to the Kindle DX without having to go through the email service? I can't seem to find a rock solid answer and see a lot of posts about texts moved to the device that don't show up.

Why oh why don't they put an SD slot in the thing? I would really like to carry my MP3's around for listening while I read without having to carry 2 gizmos a reader and a player.

SD cards are so cheap and the circuits to use them have to be cheap as so many devices can use them.

I really wonder why.

I have been thinking about the charge that all our international friends are forced to pay when ordering a book... even the free ones.
I am thinking... would it not be easier to allow you to purchase a book without it being have to be sent to a Kindle, this will allow you to simply purchase the book and download it to their computer and then upload to the kindle.

Amazon saves money by not having to send it to you wireless and the costumer saves by not paying the wireless fee.

Am I thinking too much on something so simple

I went hunting in the Amazon today and found this:

Why does the Kindle edition cost 28� more than the Hardcover? Does it cost that much more for the warehouse space to house ebooks? Or are they trying to compete with Barnes and Noble ebook prices?

Need recommendations

My K2 is almost a week old and needs clothes :)

My biggest concern would be protection. I can't count the number of times I've dropped my cell.... And I'm scared of damaging my K2 :eek:

So which case / cover would you recommend for someone that is worried about dropping their K2?

And if you don't mind answering.... which cover / case do you have?

Again apologies if this is a stupid question or me not understanding something straightforward.

The Bi-monthly price appears to be $3.99.

However, on the right-hand side of the screen, underneath the 'Subscribe Now' box, there is the 'Single Edition' purchase box, which lists the current edition as being $9.99.

Why is a single edition listed as being more than twice the cost of one bi-monthly subscription payment

So - an annual subscription would be just under $24, which is less than the cost of 3 individual copies???????

Am I missing something or am I just too tired to see the logic of this?

Convince Me to Cancel Nook Pre-Order

I placed a pre-order for nook, but am having second thoughts (primarily the stark pricing differences for ebooks). My biggest hang up with Kindle is lack of epub or pdf support.

What are the workarounds for pdf support (that do not require me paying additional)? How difficult are they to implement?

I see myself clipping material from the web and wanting to move it to Kindle to read. What is the most efficient way to do this?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
