eReader for Android - trapped in a single chapter?

Is anyone else having issues with the recently released eReader for Android app? I installed it on my HTC Hero and downloaded one of my purchased books from my Fictionwise account directly to my phone.

eReader opens the book but when I attempt to read it, I seem to get trapped in a single chapter. When I reach the end of chapter one and page down, I'm taken back to the beginning of the same chapter. The file itself hasn't been truncated as I can directly navigate to any chapter by opening the table of contents and selecting a new chapter. But every time I reach the end of a chapter, it goes back to the beginning of the same chapter.

Quite frustrating.

Guess I'll stick with converting my purchases to ePub format and reading them on FBReaderJ for now.

I've recently replaced my PC and needed to install MS Reader again on the new machine. I've done that and gone through the activation process getting the reply "Activation files have been succesfully downoaded and installed" but still reader won't let me read any of me ebooks that I have been reading on the previous machine " "This copy of MS Reader cannot open this file try reactivating".
Any suggestions? (I have of course tried re-activating but no joy)

Where is my Sony eBook Library on mac OS

I am relatively new to this but have decided to switch to Calibre from the Sony eBook Library program on my Mac. the problem is I cannot find the location of the actual ebook library to copy the files and the Sony eBook Library software will not let me drag and drop the files and there is no option to export. How do I get my books out of this program now that I imported them? I have about 20 books mostly in unprotected pdf.

What's new in µBook 2010r0b

    * Added open/close effects for overlays
    * Added Previous / Next text to help nvigate multi-part texts (most epub)
    * Change sort to handle numbers in filenames correctly, i.e., p01, p2, p003, p4
    * Added simili old-style menus (using new overlays) available through Skins... -> Menus...
    * Added page 0x2000 in distributed fonts
    * Installs in a uBook2010 folder instead of uBook, some settings were not compatible with 2009 versions
    * Rewritten Auto-Scroll (less code, same result)
    * Changed quick open, open option and recent to be more friendly
    * Drawing cycle is now different, reducing flickers on some operations
    * New Generic and fast Blitter code
    * Fixed lost of text style in hyphenator
    * Fixed issue with TOC and changing charset
    * Fixed issue with HOME / END key that may cause system freeze

    * Removed incomplete (hidden and bad) PDF support
    * Removed cursor_skin, which is an extra click for nothing

that syncs the last page read between the iphone and the desktop that also allows me to import my own content for reading? As far as I am aware the kindle app does this, and possibly the b&n ereader app(?), except for the content not from their stores part.

While I don't want to be tied to one bookstore, I don't mind being tied to one reader - assuming that it has all the basic features that I need. I don't mind dealing with converting my books to another format for this.

Since I'm assuming that I want something that does not exist, I may as well ask about another feature that I'm sure doesn't exist. Does a reader exist for both the desktop and the iphone that has plugin support? Because what would be REALLY awesome is if both versions would automatically upload my current position to a website, preferably of my choice, then download it the same way - and I wouldn't mind writing the plugin.

When I say desktop, I mean that I prefer Windows but that I'd be willing to consider OSX, Linux or something else if it were necessary.

Feedback requested on ePub ("My Antonia") rendering in various Reading Software

Everyone,

I have prepared a hand-made ePub of the classic novel "My Antonia" and am requesting feedback on how this e-book renders in the various mobile ePub reading systems (e.g. iPhone's Stanza) and in conversion and rendering in other formats. Of course, screen captures would be most welcome!

The "My Antonia" ePub is downloadable form: http://www.glasspublishing.net/myantonia/

(Use the highest version in the directory.)

In requesting feedback on how this ePub renders in the desktop readers such as Adobe DE, Epubreader add-on for Firefox, bookworm, etc., someone noted that they sometimes were not able to load this ePub into the iPhone Stanza. I'd like to know why.

Note that this ePub passes epubcheck 1.0.3, 1.0.4, and an unreleased 1.0.5 beta (I am involved with IDPF standards, and was one of the main technical contributors to the specs which underly ePub.)

I look forward to your feedback. Thanks!

Hi,

I just bought a bunch of pdf and epub ebooks. They open and read fine in Adobe Digital Editions. Problem is, I would need to be able to search given words in all the ebooks. As far as I can see, I can search words within the document which is open, but not in the other files which are in the same directory.

In Adobe Acrobat, you can search and find items in the document which is open, but also in all the pdf files of a given directory. Is there any reader which allows you to find words in all the pdf AND epub files of a directory?

Another option would be to convert the epub files to pdf and use Acrobat Reader. I tried Calibre, but the resulting pdf file was too small and weird (less pages than the original epub file). IS there any good tool to convert epub files to pdf?

thanks!

Australian readers - which device do you use?

I'm interested in knowing which e-reader devices are used in Australia...

I find Australia is so far behind in the 'e-reading' world.... You can't buy an e-reader from Harvey Norman, Dick Smith etc - some of the leading electronic stores... In fact, they don't even sell PDAs anymore, since the i-phone came in.

I've been reading books on my Palm Zire72 for at least 5 years, but I would like something new :o There's nothing wrong with my Palm, yet, and it has a backlit display, which is perfect for when I'm on night shifts (I'm a carer, and lights are off at night).. This device also has my calender, notes, memos etc on it...

Which device do you use and why?

Thanks

ADE leaves files behind after deleting eBooks?

I was searching for a particular eBook within the ADE folders today and found the following two folders:

*1. C:/Users/[Username]/Documents/My Digital Editions/Annotations*

The above folder contains a file (or multiple files) for every book that I've ever used (or maybe just imported) in ADE. I have since deleted many ePub and PDF books that I've opened with ADE and these files remain behind.

*2. C:/Users/[Username]/Documents/My Digital Editions/Thumbnails*

The above folder contains a thumbnail (or multiple thumbnails) of the book cover(s) for every book that I've ever used in ADE. I have since deleted many of these books, yet the thumbnails remain behind.

Does anyone know of any reason why I can't clean out these folders, or at the least remove duplicates, triplicates, etc....??

Thanks, Ken

(I'm also looking into duplicate (or more) thumbnails stored on the reader itself)

My first post - I'm really impressed with this community and have already made use of postings advising how to unfreeze my 505 and what might be causing it to freeze. Also was sent a couple of free books by a member to get me started, everyone here is so generous!

Lately I'm having problems launching the Sony ereader software I've used it OK before, haven't updated it or my operating system (Windows XP) but now it won't open. When I double click its icon, or try to launch it in other ways, the hourglass comes up, goes away again and nothing happens. No error messages, nothing. I haven't tried getting rid of it and reinstalling as I'm concerned that might affect my use of the 505 (would its authorisation become invalid?)

It's not critically important, as I've downloaded Calibre (wow!!!) so am using that for my day to day book management. However if I need the Sony software in the future I could be stuck.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening and what I could try?

Many thanks

Read Them All scrolling - non Palm.

I am looking for a replacement for my Palm TX, and ebook reading is a high priority. Currently I use PalmFiction and Read Them All - they both have the Read Them All scrolling where the text does not move, but is overwritten, line by line.
I have not been able to find any non-Palm reader software that implements this, so, is anyone aware of non-Palm ebook-reader software that can scroll like "Read Them All"?
:thanks:

Bounty for Linux ePub Reader Software

Let's face it, Linux dweebs. Our favorite OS has dreck for software readers.

FBReader is trying to be a swiss-army knife. Coolreader is beta at best. It drops off seriously after that to PG text-readers.

Would anyone consider pledging to a bounty to pay a programmer to make an ePub (and zipped HTML) reader? Not a Mobipocket-eReader-MicrosoftReader-PDF-Doc-RTF-EtcReader-all-in-one-wunderkammer?

Just a good, solid, ePub reader that has complete CSS support and per-book bookmarks. Decent library handling, with folders. Fullscreen rotation. Lightweight, with a good interface that works with touchscreens or keyboards. (any other features?)

It doesn't have to be from scratch. I'd say take a look at Calibre's reader, myself, and at FBreader's library interface. Dillo has a super-fast renderer, and they're working on CSS right now. (Actually a dillo-based reader would be awesome!)

I'd definitely throw $ at this. We'd need a good set of specs, and some ideas on how to find applicants, and a sense of what sort of money is reasonable.

Let's call it the MobileReader. :D

eReader (pdb) purchased ebooks on B&N eReader on iPhone?

Hi,

I'm not sure this is a right forum to ask.

I have a number of ebooks purchased from eReader.com. I also have both eReader and B&N ereader on my iPhone. I believe that B&N will stop enhancing eReader app and concentrate on B&N ereader.

The problem is both apps seem to see eReader and B&N online stores as different ebook stores. So I don't know how I can fully switch my eReader books to B&N.

My question is how can I download my eReader ebooks into B&N eReader on my iPHone?
